Case Study Leon

Leon has been evaluated for the treatment of depression, with the extent of his depression lasting from early childhood. The symptoms that Leon experienced related to the DSM-5 diagnosis of social anxiety and included lethargy, lack of interest, difficulty concentrating, and somatic symptoms, and extreme anxiety in social situations. Leon had anxiety that interfered with his ability to function in school and answer questions spontaneously and engage with others appropriately in social situations, such as dates or basic communication. The presented symptoms of depression causes him to lack interest in dating and other social functions, and feared the social pressures of working. Leon has never experienced sudden anxiety, panic attacks, or psychotic symptoms, and the presenting symptoms of depression and anxiety were present more often than not. …show more content…
I would assess the cultural influences of Leon’s depression, to see if depression heightens during specific activities. I would suggest that Leon avoids stressful activities and engage in more relaxing exercises. Before suggesting medication for treatment, I would recommend an alternative therapy so that Leon learn to practice mindfulness, meditation or another exercise to combat depressive symptoms. Leon experiences a normal mood when he entertains himself with music while home or watches television. In diagnosing Leon, I would utilize talk therapy and advocate for the client to make more opportunity for leisure activities and entertainment to avoid depression. Leon should practice socialization skills through coaching to reduce anxiety during socializing with others and public speaking. I would suggest that Leon seek a full evaluation to ensure that he does not pose any potential risk to himself or to
