Kolej MARA Kuala Nerang (KMKN) started its operations on December 1st, 1994 and is situated in Kuala Nerang of the Padang Terap district in Kedah Darul Aman. It first started offering the Matriculation Programme for Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) in 1995 until 2000. When UUM took over the matriculation programme, KMKN was endowed with the opportunity to offer matriculation programmes for Malaysia’s Ministry of Education and since then stood at par with other matriculation colleges throughout Malaysia. Other than this programme, KMKN also offers Universiti Kuala Lumpur’s (UniKL) programmes which are Foundation in Engineering (FET) and Foundation in Business Studies (FIBS) in 2008. Recently, the name of the programmes have been changed to Foundation in Science (FSc).

Three major assessments in the Semester I syllabus consists of Quiz (40%), Mid-semester exam (10%) and Final Exam (50%). The same structure and weightage of assessments are allocated in the Semester II. The English subject is incorporated as a part of the curriculum for matriculation programme, so as to assist students to prepare for the Malaysian University English Test (MUET). Normally, the Matriculation students have to sit for MUET test in November which takes place during the first semester in the college. This means that the students have to sit for two major exams during their first semester. Students need to develop their writing skills as the writing assessment carries 30% of the overall grade.
