All in all, Johnsonville was a sausage plant that had been burnt down causing the employees to think that they were going to have to go into unemployment, however, something very different happened. Employees continued to receive full salaries and even monthly bonuses. All the employees had to do was “volunteer at local organizations, take training classes at the local technical college or work in other Johnsonville facilities” (Gallagher, 2016). These were three understandable conditions for employees to keeping their full salary and bonuses while the plant was being rebuilt. This benefitted more than one stakeholder by still paying the employees when the facility was down. “Strategic philanthropy links corporate resources and knowledge to …show more content…
Because of him giving so much money to Republican candidates, especially ones people who appear to be unable to do the job, people banned his Johnsonville Bratfest in protest. It is the consumer and community really showing Johnsonville’s owner what they think what he likes to support. The boycott had nothing to do with what the company produces or that it continued to pay its workers after the plant burned down. “Because customers, employees, investors and shareholders, suppliers, governments, communities, and others have a stake in or claim on some aspect of a company’s product, operations, markets, industry, and outcomes, they are known as stakeholders” (Ferrell et al., p 36). Stakeholders show how they feel about a company by buying their products if they like them or not buying their products if they do not like them. Clearly, the stakeholders that were a part of the boycott were against Ralph Stayer supporting Republicans by donating money to their …show more content…
So I would have to say that there was not insurance to physically pay the workers, just the insurance that provided coverage to the employees in the form of dental or health. However, under vacation and time off on glassdoor.com I found a section that had volunteer time off for Johnsonville employees so I am sure that form of time off was used to pay workers to some extent (Glassdoor, 2016). In fact, I could not find anything on where the money came from to pay the workers, just that they were being paid. I assume that the money came from what was produced at the other factories and since workers from Watertown were working there the profit was dispersed to them as well. Also, since volunteer community work took place, the government, such as the state, provided some money for the workers possibly. Insurance that would have been available would have been what was provided by Johnsonville to employees since they were still employed with the company. This would include “comprehensive and unparalleled rewards, including paid time off, profit sharing, medical, dental, vision, life and other insurance types, and much more” (Johnsonville,

I thoroughly enjoyed reading the article, "Franchise Hostages: Fast Food, God, and Politics" by Robert W. Emerson and Jason R. Parnell. Prior to reading this article, I never thought about the possible negative effects that the freedom of speech has on a company. It made me realize that leaders of companies have to be cautious when speaking about politics. This highlights the fine line of free speech and politics. The examples given in this article show that when leaders of companies speak publicly about politics, there are likely negative consequences.…

By being considered “closely held” the corporation would be able to say that religious beliefs constitute business interests (Scalia, 1990,p. 1604). The court gathers that stemming from Hobby Lobby Stores’s statement of purpose, which commits the Green family to abiding by their religiously held views in all that they do, to include operation of the company, Hobby Lobby Stores is a “closely held” corporation. This is further enforced by numerous efforts by Hobby Lobby Stores to engage in accordance with this statement of purpose, such as closing on Sundays, discouraging the sale of alcohol, donating to Christian missionaries, and public outreach through advertisements. Essentially, the court finds that these actions sufficiently display how closely held Hobby Lobby Stores is to the Greens. Further influencing the court, was the determination that Hobby Lobby Stores’s religious integrity has never been disputed (Alito,…

THE ASIAN SOCIETY AND THE SONS OF THE CONFEDERACY CERTIORARI TO THE UNITED STATES CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEALS * Decided November 7, 2014* West Central Dixie State University was once known as a stronghold of the Old South and Jim Crow policies. The all-segregated university was known for resisting efforts by civil rights activists and federal courts to bring integration to the school in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. Social responsibility on the part of New Belgium brewing has not been restricted to reducing harm to the environment. New Belgium Brewing started a philanthropy program in 1995, and started a philanthropy committee (Fat Tire). Since the creation to these two entities, more than $8 million dollars has been donated their grant programs, and their employees have donated over 2,700 hours in community service (Fat Tire). Throughout my research, it has become apparent that not only is this their corporate culture but their efforts have become a part of the culture of their employees. The competitive advantage that this provides is that not only does the corporation show they are committed to giving back they also have instilled this value in their employees.…
