Case Study 2 - Linda

I am a healthcare assistant (HA) working in a respite care setting for young adolescents. One of the current clients, Linda a 14 year old adolescent has attended the respite home several times during the past year, it can be assumed that Linda could have personal or family issues. This case study will discuss the appropriate action needed to be taken to care for Linda. The information for this case study was sourced from textbooks, healthcare information and online.

On a recent visit I observed Linda was behaving out of character. Linda was very quiet of herself, she wasn’t interacting with the other girls in the group, not joining in for social activities

Development is formed by a combination of genes, brain development, environment, culture and also family and friends. High self-esteem can be established among adolescents who has a close relationship with their parents. Linda’s self-esteem is at a low and she has poor self-image of herself as she believes she’s fat regardless of how thin she may become. Linda could also be experiencing a sense of helplessness, self-trust and also been afraid of been judged by others she is isolating herself from social activates, from her friends and peers. Urge Linda’s friend to encourage Linda to confine in a HA. Create a bond of trust and give a talk on healthy eating using the food pyramid to educate how important food is for the body and certain nutrients such as calcium for healthy bones (Helpguide.org 2016). Be assertive around Linda this is to be honest about your own rights, needs and respect Linda’s. As Linda is going through verbal and emotional bullying we are going to introduce self-help skills as to encourage her to seek friends who are supportive and kind and to stay in groups as bullies single out those who are alone. Educate on cyber bullying. Document the concerns and contact (MDT) team, physician, nutritionist and a mental health professional, social worker and to document any change on the care plan.

Conclusion
To conclude I found this assignment interesting as I have two adolescents who have experienced similar changes and situations. As I researched deeper into it I have gained a better understanding of the physical, intellectual, emotional and social changes adolescents go through. I would feel confident dealing with a similar case I as gain valuable knowledge from this case
