As complexity of technologies continues to evolve, they posture more challenges for management because organizations will have to need more number of employees with increased technical and professional skills. These knowledge workers cannot be managed with old styles of totalitarian management. They expect autonomy, job satisfaction and status. It is because of these facts that attention of managers is shifting towards employees’ side of organizations. Employers now realize that by focusing on employee engagement, they can create more efficient and productive workforce. Hyatt hotel group’s high employee retention and long tenure speaks volumes in an industry known for its high employee turnover. The focus on employee development and promoting from within plays a large part in this. Another interesting practice, connected to development, is how they empower their employees (whom they call associates), to listen carefully to each other and guests, to be able to solve problems and create new solutions, rather than following scripts of what to do, making the guest feel special and hear.
