The Importance Of Principal Ingraham

Improved Essays
How should Principal Ingraham proceed? As the Superintendent, I would encourage Mr. Ingraham to go have another conversation with Ms. Schaffer in regards to the hypothetical question that she asked. During this conversation he needs to ask some clarifying questions and try to get as much information as possible so that he can handle the situation. Mr. Ingraham needs to remind Ms. Schaffer that as an educator she is a mandated reporter and if she knows of something that students are doing that is illegal and could cause harm to themselves or others she could be held liable if she does not report it to the proper authorities be that administration or law enforcement.

Yes, Mr. Ingraham needs to initiate actions, he needs to start a full investigation and paper trail to cover himself and the school in case something happens. His investigation needs to start with documenting all of the information that Ms. Schaffer has already shared with him. He then needs to do some investigating on Facebook and see what he can find as well as talk with Ms. Schaffer to see what information he can find out from her. If there is a board policy about social media and faculty members being friends with students she needs to be reminded of the policy as well as the disciplinary actions that go with not following the policy. During this whole process I would be talking with the school attorney or legal at KASB to make sure that I am protecting the school district as well as handling the situation with the teacher …show more content…
Yes and no, as educators both are mandated reporters. But the administrator is responsible for both the safety of the student as well as the teacher. While the teacher has a closer relationship with the students then the administrator, the administrator is still responsible for their well being and safety. In this situation the principal is responsible for investigating both the student situation as well as the teacher and the relationship that she may or maynot be having with students.

Does the school need a policy about internet communication? If so, what is the principal’s role? Is school policy the long-term problem? Yes the district needs a policy about electronic communication with students that not only involves social media, but it also involves email, as well as texting students. It would be the responsibility of the administration to work with the Superintendent and district office personnel to get a policy drafted. Once it has been drafted it must go to legal to make sure that it covers the district as well as the staff.

What is the immediate problem for the Principal? The immediate problem for Mr. Ingraham is that there may be students safety at risk and there is one of his teachers who has first hand knowledge of this and is not acting in a professional manner and upholding her professional

Although there are many problems in this case, the main problem is lack of student learning, which needs to be the top priority of a free and appropriate public education, aside from safety, which is always at the forefront. As the principal, I need to reflect on my last 2 years of making an attempt to develop positive and trusting relationships, and my own growth as an educational leader. The problem here is that Principal Hulbert is still at a Level 1 leadership role; where people follow you simply because of your title. This was demonstrated when Bill Osborne, the employee spokesperson, told the principal, “You are the boss and you can force us to revise the lesson plans. Just tell us what you want in the lesson plans, we’ll copy it, and we can go on to more important issues,” (Kowalski, 2012, p.5).…

As a new principal at Howard L. Jones High School, I have many challenges facing me on my first day. Jones High School uses the zero tolerance policy when it comes to discipline, and that policy can create a lot of tension among stakeholders. My school is diverse, and that in itself is new to this school. The first problem I am facing is our district’s drug policy and the young lady that was sent to the office because of a mysterious pill that was found in her possession that supposedly is for allergies. My second challenge is our district’s policy on weapons and the young man that is in the office with a sharpened file.…

    1. Why was it important for Sandy to keep the school principal and others informed about her plans? It is important to keep the school officials informed because she would have to validate her reasoning for wanting to address the situation via a group rather than individually. Because this is not the school 's usual protocol and there would probably be some skepticism of her desire to handle the situation in this manner, so it is important for this to be a collaborative effort. Moreover, Sandy was working with teens who had a history of violent behavior, so for her safety and the children 's as well it would be wise to keep officially informed of the group 's progress.…
