On campus, there are several locations in which students can frequent to stay fit, including basketball courts, sand volleyball courts, a track, and fully-equipped gyms. GCU makes working out a regular and fun thing to do. On the other side of the spectrum, staying healthy requires a healthy diet and currently more and more colleges are accruing more food options rather than improving the quality (Archibald & Feldman, 2011). This particular college has implemented this idea and has various on-site fast food chains and mini-marts scattered around campus. While there are salads offered at most of the fast food chains, it is not by any means healthy to consume fast food and this ruins the ideal of living healthy while on campus. The healthiest options found on campus is the extremely small selection of organic and non-GMO foods found in the mini-marts. The perfect college sports should hold “the values of hard work, striving for excellence, respect for others, sportsmanship and civility, team play, persistence, and resilience that underlie the ideal of sport [and] should be brought into the developmental aspects of a college education affecting all students” (Brand, 2006, p.19). GCU utilizes the sports offered on campus to positively affect the athletes and students alike. The athletes themselves strive to achieve good grades to stay on the team and the students enjoy the games on their downtime. A plethora of resources are available to guide students towards academic success. There are multiple supplements found on the GCU website to assist students in academic struggles. Professors are very engaged in the success of their students by having open office hours where students can go and ask for assistance on a difficult subject. In addition to the other resources, GCU also has a student learning lounge to get help from student leads.
