1. Ms. Bryant’s Kindergarten Schedule:
Reflection: The schedule shows that there is a lot time spent on reading, which is an hour and forty-five minutes a day. I do think it’s important for the children to work on their reading, but what about social studies and science. There should be more time allotted for that. If the teacher wants the children to work on their reading skills, then they should purposefully integrate reading in social studies and science. The direct reading instruction is the reading time. The indirect reading time includes math, social skills, science, social studies, and writing.

Reflection: According the research, children tend to be more optimistic, especially African American children. Since their mindsets are cheerful, then we as teachers should teach with an open mind. Going to the next day, there should be a thought that yesterday is in the past, and today is a new day because children should be given a second chance. The children will also be more receptive when they trust you. Having 11 girls and 11 boys is an interesting aspect.

The authority that guides me is an article, “The Impact of Multisensory Instruction on Learning Letter Names and Sounds, Word Reading, and Spelling,” written by Nora W. Schlesinger and Shelley Gray. The article comes from Annals of Dsylexia, and was published March 2, 2017. After reading this article I have come to realize that children need tactile learning to improve if they are struggling. The research indicated that “multisensory intervention advantage for maintenance of words read and spelled” would be improved for the children (Schlesinger, 2017). The children may not be dyslexic, but they do need my help in reading. At this point, I feel responsible for these children, and I want them to grow.
