This FOR is applicable to this group intervention plan because identifying desired activities, skills, and strengths help to enhance a person’s drive to be active in a lifestyle that they can manage. This desire to be active is directly related to quality of life. This FOR posits that quality of life is the most important part of a well-balanced life.
Purpose: The purpose of the group session is to encourage senior adults to engage in actions that will promote gross motor movement, fine motor movement, and cognition, as well as encourage the development of endurance and activity tolerance. The leadership style to be used is democratic and interactive. This manner of leadership will allow for collaboration with the group members, while simultaneously providing structure and operational guidelines. For example, group participants may choose their own teams and clues, but must abide by the time limits and scoring requirements as described by the group leader. At the conclusion of the activity group participants will be able to share their feelings and suggestions regarding their experience.
Time and Place of Meeting: The group activity will occur around 10:00 a.m. in the large room in the Senior Center. The room is rectangular and has tables and chairs near the walls. The tables should be moved to the center of the room to accommodate the dry erase boards on the walls and to ensure the area is free of things that could be tripped or fallen over. Summary: Physical and mental exercise doesn’t have to be boring. Encourage participants to include family and friends in activities they love, like playing cards or board games. Suggest creating a walking book club where members walk and talk about books they have read. Also, suggest that when Senior Center members are playing cards, watching TV, or playing board games that they stand up and move around every 15 minutes. Suggest some gross motor exercises that can be done while sitting in a chair for those who are not
