The FBI is a “threat-based and intelligence-driven national security and law enforcement ...agency… organized to protect and defend the United States” (Who Are We, 2015). Being a FBI agent is honor and commitment that asks for bravery and sacrifices for the national good. Getting into the FBI is a task in itself, and taking on the challenges of the job can be off-putting. FBI agents are “responsible for enforcing over 300 federal statutes and conducting sensitive national security investigations” (Current FBI Needs, 2015). In the FBI all employees are not asked to uphold the law by enforcing it directly some are in charge of making new technologies not just for the FBI but for law enforcement agencies nationwide. In 2013 the FBI launched Latents and National Palm Print System, in 18,000 law enforcement agencies nationwide. The new software has enhanced the law enforcement agencies abilities to solve crimes more efficiently (Next Generation Identification, 2015 ). Though the FBI has new technology emerging there is still a lot ethical issues that FBI technology cannot always stop. Some ethical issues that FBI agents may face are “criminal ethics breaches, such as lying under oath, planting evidence, falsifying reports, performing illegal searches, and other violations” (Fortenbery, 2015). Because agents have so much power being a part of such a high ranking law enforcement agency, they sometimes lose sight of their ethical responsibilities.
