Nursing Excursion Report Sample

The Urban excursion event was packed with so many beautiful murals. The one mural I selected is “The Evolving Face of Nursing” by Meg Saligman. This unique mural is located at the intersection of Broad and Vine streets of Center City. This mural was to celebrate and bring attention to the nursing communities, plus, change the way the public looks at public art and nursing professionals. “The Evolving Faces of Nursing” replaced another mural that was once there, it was called “A Tribute to Nursing” (Evolving Faces of Nursing, 2010). The new mural includes LED lighting. No other mural contains lights or any electronic features in its presentation. This allows for the effect of one master piece throughout the day and then as the sun sets and the night life comes out, the mural has numerous different views, illuminating the street with its beautiful colors. The mural uses the same effect as 3D picturing. when one light color shines onto the image, the blue pattern is displayed. This may represent how nurses were everywhere, even to take care of wounded soldiers. Yet it could represent the time line this picture may take place in, such as back during the war. This is possible since if one looks closely there is a women and child, who seem to be dressed as slaves would, hiding behind a pillar. The time line of this mural seems to take place far back into history of not only medicine but of the U.S. in general, while showing the evolvement of both the medical field and the people who are a part of it. Next, there is a banner in every section that appears to be being hung up. There is no evidence of who these people are specifically, but the women and men depicted in the mural are the many individuals that Meg Saligman interviewed.
