Over the years management have always played a vital role in the very success and failure of most organizational strategic business plans. The key to the very successful companies are employees who are very much engaged and well motivated by the managers of that establishment. According to Huselid (1995) he states that organizational current and potential human resources are both important considerations in the evolution and application of the organisation strategic business plan. This normally raises the following questions, why are employee obliged to work hard? Why does employee need to devote more time to his or her work? And why do managers engage employees in the workplace? Why do managers want to figure out if employees have a common objective? Perrin (2003), also defined engagement as the ‘employee willingness and ability to contribute to company success, through putting extra time, brain power and energy to their work’. According to Shuck and Wollard (2010), employee engagement is “an individual employee’s cognitive, emotional, and behavioral state directed toward desired organizational outcomes”. The willingness on the part of employees to go to the extra mile than what they ever did before can be termed as engagement, in terms of business demands and client demands. This cannot be achieved alone, it works hand in hand with motivation, so these are the major dilemma faced by many managers and leaders today.
