The owners of two apartment buildings in Dufferin Grove have been fined nearly $100,000 for provincial fire code violations, Toronto Fire inspectors say.
Their multi-unit residential properties along Dovercourt Road are adjacent to one-another on Heydon Park Road.
The building’s owners, Rakesh Gupta was fined $80,000 and Swarash Gupta was charged $16,250 for the alleged violations, a city news release said.
Rakesh also faces jail time for 30 days if his property is not brought into compliance within three months, the court noted.
The pair’s violations, according to the city’s inspection documents, include inadequate fire separations through the buildings, specifically involving corridors, dwelling units and exit stairwells; fire-rated doors
