According to the Census Bureau guidelines, the Powell family is living above the poverty line. The family is financially supported by Mr. and Mrs. Powell’s income. The family does not receive any form of assistance from the government.

Foster Care and Child Protective Services:

Both Mr. and Mrs. Powell deny any involvement with Child Protective Services, and reported Da’Shaun was never in foster care. Da’Shaun denied ever being abused or neglected.

Education

Da'Shaun is currently enrolled as 12th grader at Churchland High School and is on track to graduate with a standard diploma in June. His received school report indicates he is failing three of his current classes and is barely passing the remaining classes. Da’Shaun’s discipline report

Both Mr. and Mrs. Powell report education is important and would like Da’Shaun to obtain a high school diploma. When asked about educational goals, Da’Shaun reported he just wants to graduate from high school.

Community and Peer Relationships

Da'Shaun reported prior to be being charged with criminal charges, he reduced his circle of friends. He reported his old circle of friends included people that were on supervision and used drugs. Da’Shaun reported spending three to seven hours of free time per week with his peers. Da’Shaun denies being in a gang or associating with gang members. He reported thinking gangs are dumb.

Da’Shaun is particularly susceptible to the influence of his negative peers. There are indications that Da’Shaun does not admire his delinquent peers, but follows their lead. He has two positive adult relationships in the community. These relationships are with his step brother and his best friend. Da’Shaun is not involved with any prosocial community organizations.

Da’Shaun, while he does not demonstrate skills at generating or applying solutions, can at least identify his problems. He sometimes lacks a sense of responsibility, but strives for some control over his behavior. For example, he can at least identify triggers in his environment such as persons, events, emotions although he is not always successful in responding.

Regarding his social skills, Da'Shaun can reason there are two sides to a situation, but can have trouble accepting other points of view. He can appropriately express needs and feelings in an assertive, non-confrontational way. Da’Shaun lacks skills and motivation for developing realistic goals and plans.

Employment & Use of Free Time Da’Shaun has never been employed. He is not involved in any structured or unstructured recreational activities. Da’Shaun is aware of hobbies that he would find interesting and challenging. Da’Shaun reported not having any goals for the future as it relates to
