Case Study Co-Sleeping Home

Superior Essays
1. We are a co-sleeping family. The master bedroom in our home is somewhat reminiscent of the classic “I Love Lucy” television show. My husband and I sleep in separate beds, with my six year old daughter sleeping with me and, until very recently, my seven year old son in bed with my husband. My mother has questioned in the past if I feel I am raising relationship dependent children. When they are grown will they need constant companionship?
I believe the opposite is true. I believe that by fulfilling their need for love and companionship at home, they won’t be as likely to be run from relationship to relationship when they are older. I believe that they will be empowered to be strong, independent individuals in part because they know they have loving relationships at home. I also want them to be comfortable, especially when they sleep. Right now, their needs are to be with us. I know this won’t last forever though, as my son recently decided that he wanted to start sleeping in his own room.
Co-sleeping is more common now than when my mom was a parent. I was born during a time where people thought it was weird, and even dangerous. I am sure this contributed to initial disapproval. However, she has come to accept it over time. It just works for us, and she recognizes that.

There are different ways to go about conducting a research study. The question being posed helps to determine the type of method that is used to conduct the study. One method, longitudinal research, is a method where researchers recurrently observe a single group of subjects over multiple periods of time. An advantage of this method is that it allows researchers to study developmental patterns over time. However, a disadvantage is that the study can’t be restarted (to change the makeup of the participant pool, for example). It is an observational study; the researchers do not attempt to influence the subjects or manipulate the

Cross-sectional Design “Cross-sectional designs involve studies of one group at a time and usually refer to a representative sampling of this group. Longitudinal Design Longitudinal studies are studies of the same group over a period of time and generally are studies of change” (Hagan, 2010). What are the pros and cons of using each? For Cross-sectional design research the disadvantages could possibly be an error in collecting the data that permits the participants to not be honest about past problems, especially are targeted by the researchers to test the hypotheses.…

The factors: age, cohort, and time measurement all have influences on developmental research results. I believe that age and cohort goes hand in hand because it is the age of individual being born in the same generation that researchers take into consideration when conducting a research to be able to come up with an accurate outcome for the factors in question which is age and the cohort. Time measurement also has a great influence on how developmental research is conducted. Time measurement effects developmental research because it uses factors like the events that are taking place at the time that would have an effect on how a person would be able to manage through the event that has taken place. With all three factors being utilized while…

Correlation study is “a research strategy that involves relating two or more variables” (Belsky, 2013) – page 26). One group being of men that are in jail for some sort of aggressive behavior and the other of men that have no history of violent behavior. In the interview I would ask about which type of TV shows, cartoons and movies that they liked. And see if there is a correlation between being aggressive and liking watching violence in TV.…

As we all have seen and read how metabolic syndrome can lead to the most crippling man made disease such as diabetes, heart disease and stroke. It would take an effort from the whole community to fight this modern age epidemic of obesity and metabolic syndrome. The best age where we can start making changes and see results in future is definitely our children and adolescents. When I say the community I mean the family or the care givers, the schools as they provide meals and are also the best way to increase the physical activity level in our children and last but not least are us the health care providers. It is our responsibility to educate our children and the parents about the modern epidemic and help them to find ways to make changes.…

Although there are several methods to conduct research studies, there is one in particular that interests me most. This method of research is called the exploratory research study. This type of research is typically conducted for a problem that has not yet been clearly defined or resolved. Exploratory research is not usually generalized to a population of people, but to a select few or small group that is affected by the issue at hand. One study that has not only captivated my attention because of the rising number of people that are affected, but has also been an on-going battle in my personal life is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Substance Abuse (PTSD).…

This is evident by the manner in which researchers persuade participants to develop their responses leading to new themes not initially thought of emerging (SOURCE). Another advantage identified is the avoidance of prejudgements by researchers as evidenced in their attempts to clarify why a given outcome was provided, (SOURCE). Moreover, Saks and Allsop (2013) maintain that it offers in-depth information to both researchers and participants of the study. This is evidenced by the process and in the depth of analysing data by documenting on the behaviours, attitudes, and feelings of the study’s participants. Additionally, our research is a kind of cross-sectional study, which means we only meet our participants once only. We decide to work on this type due to the fact that we have limited time to do a research. Moreover, the data, which is collected, is accurate when the respondents respond for the first time that we are asked to answer the questionnaire. Furthermore, we decide to choose quota sampling since it can facilitate our sample population accessibility.…
