Case Study Co-Sleeping Home

1. We are a co-sleeping family. The master bedroom in our home is somewhat reminiscent of the classic “I Love Lucy” television show. My husband and I sleep in separate beds, with my six year old daughter sleeping with me and, until very recently, my seven year old son in bed with my husband. My mother has questioned in the past if I feel I am raising relationship dependent children. When they are grown will they need constant companionship?
I believe the opposite is true. I believe that by fulfilling their need for love and companionship at home, they won’t be as likely to be run from relationship to relationship when they are older. I believe that they will be empowered to be strong, independent individuals in part because they know they have loving relationships at home. I also want them to be comfortable, especially when they sleep. Right now, their needs are to be with us. I know this won’t last forever though, as my son recently decided that he wanted to start sleeping in his own room.
Co-sleeping is more common now than when my mom was a parent. I was born during a time where people thought it was weird, and even dangerous. I am sure this contributed to initial disapproval.
