Charlie Gordon's doctors did not act ethically when they performed the procedure for him to become smarter. Ethics are standards of good and bad, right and wrong. Ethics are similar but not confined to rights, religion, standards and virtues. Charlie Gordon is 37 years old and has a IQ of 68, he has wanted to be smart his whole life. When Charlie's doctors performed the operation they did not act ethically.
Charlie's doctors, Dr.Strauss, and Dr.Nemur took an oath to keep there patients safe, which they did not do with Charlie. They did not ask Charlie "Are you willing to live with the consequences if something goes wrong?" Or "will you be staying with anyone who will be able to assist you during your recovery?"     Charlie went from being “retarded” from the beginning to some kind of genius throughout most of the book. The change wasn't instant, it took a little bit of time but the change was drastic.
