INTRODUCTION
Opiate addiction has been a proven detrimental factor to the lives of many, either by diminishing one’s quality of life or worse, causing their fatal overdose. Thankfully, Americans today are provided with countless resources specialized in treating this hard-to-overcome addiction. Through the services of doctors from all backgrounds, psychologists to psychiatrists, addicts across the nation are given a fighting chance at recovery. Taking into consideration that insurance providers will not help cover medical cannabis costs, I will find out what portion of program costs they will cover. I will conduct online research to find studies demonstrating reduced recovery times, and calculate the price difference for the reduced time spent in treatment. I will obtain the studies on the addition of cannabis to medication-assisted treatment, specifically in relation to decreased dosages of both methadone and suboxone. I will then calculate the costs associated with this data. I have focused my education solely around plant sciences and business management so that I can have an understanding of the effective ways to run a business that legally administers cannabis. Through the connections I’ve made in my life, I have acquired a deep compassion for the communities suffering from addiction. They deserve a fighting chance, and should be provided with any medical advancements that might help them live a happy and fulfilling life, free from addiction. My education has provided me with the tools necessary to conduct this type of research, as well as analyze it effectively.
