Case Study Carol A Lewallen

Decent Essays
Carol A Lewallen, mother of the three children called me. She asked why her sister cannot be a foster mother for her children as the rectifier had told them.

I informed her that her CW case was closed on 09/19/16 and the safety plan was that her oldest child, Austin, will continue to stay with his father and that she will have the other two. The plan was changed after her CW case was closed by the family, which could be fine if the children are not at risk or neglected.

She mentioned that her sister is having financial issues helping her to feed her kids. I asked her if the original plan was still in place, Carol will have the kids, how will she support them? If she was able to show that she can take care of kids, then she needs to help her sister, otherwise, CW will need to re-assess the family situation. She said that they already reported to the CW manager Andy Moszer and he gave them an appointment to meet on 04/17/17.

Ms. Harrison explained that when questioned, some of her clients provide conflicting stories as to their whereabouts during a particular timeframe. Ms. Harrison reiterated that no information was provided which identifies Ms. Gustard as a culprit with this matter and the foster children want to remain in Ms. Gustard’s care. Ms. Harrison conveyed that based on the children’s age, it is imperative that they remain in a foster home where they feel connected to the adult who is charged with providing them with supervision. Regarding how the CW is handling his case, stated that is very difficult to have the Turkington family engaged on a safety plan no matter how many times their CW caseworker, CW Supervisor Laurie, and Program Manager Linda have met with the family. Laurie stated all those attempts have failed because the family became angry very easily and the meetings became unproductive. I informed Laurie that when I spoke with both, Alan Jr and Derrick, they expressed the following complaints: Derrick was informed about the court hearing held on 09/19/16 just two hours in advance. Laurie said that happened because in some Counties and small towns, they are informed of the court hearing schedule the same day. There is nothing that CW can do to…
