Barry shows obvious fear and avoidance behaviors while being a part of social interactions. That led to him being alone for almost his entire life. Moreover, DSM-5 also shows social anxiety can lead to isolations, and either absence of development or stagnation of social skills, which Barry’s situation fits perfectly. Barry has seven domineering sisters. Growing up in a big family is supposed to be a healthy thing, people from big family learn how to share, learn how to take care of one and another, instead Barry was abused and attacked by his very own sisters. He grew up listening to his sister’s mean and abusive words, he was mis-treated that led to even he is a grown man in his forties, but he has no idea how to interact with people nor does he know how to keep a close personal relationship. He is always concerned about being misunderstood, or judged by others, so instead of talking to people he just choices to avoid, to not be a part of social interactions.
