Case Study Baptist Health Care

When there are delays with discharge such as awaiting transportation, medical equipment, etc. the facility now has a discharge hospitality center that patients can be discharged to while they wait on a ride or needed medical equipment. The discharge center is open non-sat 8a-8p. Baptist Health also have case coordinators and social workers to assist in combating discharge issues that arise. During times of staffing shortages due to vacancies or call-ins the facility utilizes the In House Agency staff, PRN staff, and staff working overtime to fill areas where staff is needed. Moreover, there are incentives offered to staff that sign up for extra shifts such as visa gift cards. Due to the fact that Baptist Health is a non-profit organization, employees do not receive bonuses based on generated revenue. Any additional revenue must …show more content…
Managers at times may feel pressured to reduce nursing staff due to financial complications. This should be completely prevented at all measures. When nursing staff is reduced, this puts the patient’s safety in jeopardy for incidents such as severe injures or even death. Therefore, managers and administrators should reevaluate the budget and the nurse to patient ratio policy in order to provide a safe environment. One article states that “managers played a critical role in maintaining and improving employee performance, although they were restricted from effectively performing their responsibilities due to budget pressure and limited managerial skill development” (Townsend). If the budget allows, recruiting nurses or offering a pay raise for nurses could decrease the turnover rate and decrease stress level. Hospitals must take into consideration that when there is a major reductions in nurse staffing, it may have a negative impact on the quality of care provided, nursing work environment and affect financial performance. may not only affect financial performance
