Baseball is one of those sports with multiple boring moments and a wide attention span followed by the need for immediate action with a narrowed focus of attention while running and jumping to make an amazing catch against the wall with flow and auto-processing or fielding a ball and having to throw it a long distance with accuracy while trusting their body to do what it was trained to do without the mind getting in the way of their abilities to reach the optimum energy zone. The attentional challenge is teaching him to block out external and internal distractors with the ability to switch his focus depending on the task. I believe that total energization strategies might be the key to helping him to include Psych-Up breathing, imagery energization, energy machine, healing while light and music. Of these, I would first focus and train him to use Psyched-Up breathing, music, and the use of imagery as the tools to help generate some adrenaline flow to increase his heart rate and respiration to stimulate increased blood flow to the muscles and to control arousal, enhance concentration, boost confidence, and hopefully create less distractions in his performance. The imagery could be related to one of Sean’s greatest moments where he experienced a surge of energy that gained him recognition during the game. Perhaps the use of mindfulness and mindful breathing would emphasize a relaxed focus mindset that could help him remain in the moment with potential for less distractions and
