Case Study: Amarillo's Habitat For Humanity

The Organization that I chose to volunteer at was Amarillo’s Habitat for Humanity. The purpose of this organization is to build homes for low-to-median income families who qualify and complete their program requirements. Habitat builds these homes to range from three-to-five bedrooms. Their mission statement is, “Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.” Amarillo Habitat for Humanity is a Christian-based nonprofit organization that dedicates their time to eliminate below average housing. In 1981, Amarillo Habitat for Humanity was founded. Since then they have completed more than 100 homes in the community. Instead of going to the bank for money, a Habitat home is built for a family with a 25-year, no interest mortgage loan. This allows for the family to have a lower monthly payment and in return should bring more income to the household. This should let the family have more stability and better living arrangements. Which goes along with their vision, which is, “A world where everyone has a decent place to live.” I performed a lot of small tasks throughout the day. The most meaningful part of the experience was that I got to do stuff that I love to do and knowing that it was going to benefit a family greatly. What I liked the most about this experience was that the options were endless to help build that house. Even if I did not know how to do something they would teach me how to do it. It was also very humbling as well as a great learning experience for me. I would not say there was any particular challenging part of the day, but only inspiring. I enjoyed every minute helping, and it made me realize that it’s the little things in life that matter the
