1.5 Behaviour Setting Considering the context of child care centers, much of a child's time is spent in unbalanced and unstructured learning situations, with several children working on different areas at once, some with a teacher, some on their own or in small groups with their peers. Well-defined behaviour settings are areas limited to one activity, but not completely cornered off from rest of the activity spaces. They are designed to accommodate 2-5 children plus one teacher (typically 5-10sq.m.…
A physical environment, its surroundings, and a specific setting play an important role in physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional development of a child. Learning centers, a system that is used to arrange a classroom or organize materials in a classroom, and physical space, both are needed in a kindergarteners’ classroom. Therefore, classroom design has to be effective that can…
Planning is also very important within the foundation phase as all activities and areas within the setting need to be planned in order to challenge and promote children's holistic development. The activities must be enjoyable but also suitable for the children’s individual abilities in order for them to stay focused and learning new things. It is important that when planning practitioners put the child center to the planning and ensure that the children have a good balance between child initiative play and adult led activities. Practitioners may use the quality and environment triangle, this is a clear model and can be extremely useful for childcare practitioners when creating a balanced curriculum within their setting, which is appropriate to the age and stage of development for children’s play and learning. ‘As a professional the planning process is a good way of keeping you aware of all aspects of development and ensuring that some potential areas of learning do no push aside others’ (Lindon, J. 2011, P1)…
1. What activities and experiences you and your child have engaged in might be promoting healthy behavioral practices and an interest in physical activity Sebastian and I have engaged in some activities that might be promoting a healthy behavioral practice and an interest in physical behavior. For example, during the weekends, Sebastian likes to go outside to the back yard to play mini soccer or play with his mini- basketballs.…
The focus is on adjusting social and environment variables and improving learning environment. This is accomplished by routines, teaching social skills, play area clearly marked, and…
If outdoor space is limited, look at how play that usually takes place outdoors can be incorporated in doors i.e. planting in pots can be moved to indoors or moving furniture to make room for ride-on toys. The same applies to lack of space indoors by taking resources and equipment from inside to outside. Attitudes to play based learning can be more difficult to overcome but should be challenged. Parents may not understand the importance of play for learning because of their own experiences or their culture. This could be approached by visiting the setting and talking to professionals as well as providing them with written information on the benefits to play based learning.…
The first observation I did was at the Esmelda daycare, this daycare is a family daycare there the woman and husband showed me what they did every day they said that the toddler had hours for everything like what time they eat, how much time they had to play. Esmelda daycare promote language through play time she has book that help the toddlers learn the different animal or the ABC the woman would read the book to toddler by pointing to animal or letter and saying what it was she would also promote language by playing with the toys like counting how many Lego blocks there is or by saying the color of the toy right now. Esmelda daycare is not fully completed with all the material the toddlers need they are in process, but still not being a fully completed daycare you can see that the women and the husband take really good care of children when I was there as she was taking to me if the children need something she would stop and put attention to what the children need instead of just keep taking to me and ignored the child. Compare to the second observation did where each children age group has his own in Esmelda daycare see has all the children together he also has the toy room apart where they just go play when is play time and can’t go in until is play time again.…
The rapid economic development has impacted our life tremendously. Life is getting much easier and more convenient thanks technology and quick accessed information. However, we do not have everything for granted, we have been working so hard for it. As parents, we spend more time working to bring home money and at the same time dealing with the stress of keeping the job. Consequently, we spend less time with our family, especially with our children, to play with our children or read them a good story.…

Final Exam 1. Describe intentional teaching as it relates to the early childhood classroom. What does this look like on a day-to-day basis? Play-Based Curriculum In early childhood education, there are different methods that can be used when teaching the curriculum. Two approaches of teaching the curriculum include play-based and subject-based curriculum (Downey & Garzoli, 2007). A play-based curriculum approach to teaching revolves around teaching the curriculum through play.…
I feel it is important to note that these programs are very new and have not been established for long, so although a lot of their accommodations for children do not meet the Infant/Toddler Environment Rating Scale, at least when I observed, it is understandable why. However, the infant and toddler rooms had great outdoor space for gross motor play and is located by a nature trail surrounded by trees and other natural life. I felt this influenced the children to be more explorative, and the teachers did a great job pointing out educational instances while they experienced them…
Both the indoor and outdoor setting should be freely available to the children as they choose. The adult or childcare practitioner will also play a role within the childcare environment. Vygotsky’s theory’s promotes learning in which he states that students/children play an active role in learning, Vygotsky. L(1978).…
Hence, in my attitude, it is vital for the early childhood centers to investigate risk-taking procedures within their centers and ensuring to provide safe environment including the aspects of playground design. These designs not only support positive risk-taking but also reduce the inappropriate risky behaviour, and minimize educators’ response to the children’s risk-taking behaviour in their care. Moreover, I accept that the provision of a level of supervision enables educators to support children’s safety and also acknowledge that positive risk taking is an issue that needs to be addressed in policies relating to adult/child ratios. Therefore, as a future educator, I understand that it is vital for me to get to know every individual child and up-to-date about the curriculum and legislation policies. Hence, this will help me to support children to build on their existing knowledge, abilities and skills as children achieve increasing independence in caring for themselves and other’s…
