She tried to retain employees she inherited from Geraldine when she took over management because she understands that they have knowledge and experience and loyalty. This can also give the lab an advantage over other labs. This was rarely seen in Valerie who when employees make minor mistakes she sharply disagrees with them and most of employees may exit the lab. I think Melanie values all employees and even their own ideas equally, she is also seen when she informs Geraldine that the company is a big family and employees should feel safe and aware of all the departments. However, with Valerie she was the sole decision maker and this could kill creativity amongst the employees by making them feel demoralized. Melanie was more creative because she would come up with great ideas about the lab and making changes whereas Valerie mostly relied on her employee’s ideas. In the long run, Melanie came up with successful ideas because of her creativity and was more collaborative with her employees. This innovative thought could be very beneficial to the company hence she is best suitable for the position of head of R&D
