Firstly, when the planning for change lacks foresight, the workforce is insufficiently equipped to adapt to the new requirements, creating off-setting effects. Secondly, the poorly designed reward system fails to recognise the contribution of employees, resulting in lower motivation to perform up to expectations. Thirdly, the inadequate leadership style fails to motivate employees effectively. The discussion on leadership is emphasised due to its relevance to workplace disengagement, which is one of the main consequences that has resulted.
Promoting transformational leadership is likely to be a fundamental recommendation InsureCo should consider. A culture of transformational leadership can potentially foresee the areas of weakness in the workforce, bringing about a better planning for change. Also, transformational leadership instils in its leaders a better awareness of employees’ intrinsic needs. Hence, the reward system can be promptly redesigned to recognise employee’s contribution by providing more opportunities for growth. As seen in Steve’s example, transactional leadership has many flaws. Evidently, more effort should be invested in cultivating a culture of transformational leadership in InsureCo. This investment will bring about long-term benefits to facilitate the company’s restructuring efforts to align itself with the global market. 2.0 Introduction
