Officer Thomas Schwartz was shot at 2 AM last night while on patrol at Joe’s Sports Bar, according to Ken Shindle, a police commissioner for the Philadelphia Police Department.

The police have not yet identified the shooter, but their person of interest is Michael Thompson, who was identified by video footage at the bar last night. Michael is known to have been involved in former gang activity. A photo of him will be provided for insurance. The police department has also recovered two 9mm handguns from the scene, but only casings of the bullet have been found. Shindle states that they have not yet dusted the guns for fingerprints.

She immediately contacted emergency services and an ambulance responded shortly. Schwartz is currently recovering in the local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

Schwartz was responding to earlier scenes in the area; he exited his patrol car and was hit in the upper right shoulder in front of the bar at Manchester Boulevard. According to Shindle, the scene “looked like something out of the Wild, Wild West... rolling gunfire spilled out onto three blocks.”

The police reported three other non-lethal casualties, whose identities will be withheld while the families of the victims are contacted.

The bar had been very crowded due to the presence of an Eagles game last night. Joe’s is currently closed, but as a result of the incident, the area has experienced an increase in police activity.

Presently, local authorities ask that people remain indoors until the case is solved, and to immediately board up any windows that were shattered during the incident. If you have any information, you should contact the police department immediately at
