As I reflect over my first year here at the University of Washington-Bothell, I have gain many new skills and discovered more about myself while also facing new challenges as I navigate through my college career. The most important aspects of going to college for me is learning more about myself, making connections with people, and learn new skills or develop skills that I already have. I feel like the classes I took this year really help me get a sense of what I like and dislike.
I would say that my first discovery core, Race and Racism in higher education has changed my views and opinions on what the aspect of race and racism really is and how each culture challenged the world to think differently about race in today’s society. This course …show more content…
I had no idea there was such a high demand for certain foods and because we want those foods, we are using more of our natural resources and soon it will be hard to give grow fruits, vegetables, and grains because our soil wouldn’t have any nutrients. At the end of this course, my professor ask for to record our daily intake of food for three days in MyDiet Analysis. We then used the reports the website generated for us to create our own case study based on our diets. This was by far my favorite assignment because I got to do in-depth research about vitamins and minerals and why it’s important for our body function. I was shocked to learn I was so deficient in many of these vitamins and minerals so I started to change my diet to include more food like fruits and vegetables as well as lower my carbohydrate intake.
My second discovery core has also taught about scholarly articles and popular sources. What I have learned about a scholarly article is that it is composed of information done by a scholar or a researcher to be shared with other scholars. They are known as peer-reviewed and is published though an academic source like a university, or an academic journal. There sources are always cite and they are published less frequently. They differ from a popular source because a popular source is for the general public and are published more often and they don’t often cite their source of
