Adaptive cruise control and lane monitoring have been implemented in vehicles since the late 1990’s, but have not evolved much since their inception. Tesla is looking to legislate fully-autonomous vehicles that could be used in the Tesla ride-sharing service, greatly reducing the number of vehicles actually owned by the consumers. This could severely reduce the cost of ownership of a vehicle; your Tesla Model S could be driving (earning money) while you’re at work, or at home in the evening. While this could reduce the potential total number of vehicle owners, Tesla has the opportunity to corner the market on such vehicle
