On Tuesday, October 25, 2016, Little Rock Homicide Detectives were requested to respond to an officer involved shooting at 514 East 8th Street. Upon arrival, I made contact with Sergeant James Lesher and I was advised the elements of the scene. Sergeant Lesher stated that Officers were dispatched to a call of a disturbance that was at the residence of 514 E. 8th Street. Sergeant Lesher advised that he received information from patrol supervisors on scene that while Officer Dennis Hutchins and Officer Juston Tyer were driving to the location, 911 dispatch upgraded the call to a disturbance with a weapon. 6th Street, apartment #3. Mr. James stated that she called for police assistance for her neighbor “D”, who lives across the street and was involved in a fight with another male. Ms. James stated that during this incident, there were two (2) disturbances that occurred at “D’s” residence. Ms. James stated that the first disturbance was verbal and it occurred around 7 pm. Ms. James stated that the second disturbance occurred around 12:30 am and it became physical. Ms. James Stated that “D”, who has been identified as Derrell Underwood, began to fight with the other male that was in the front yard of his residence. Ms. James stated that she observe the other male pull a gun out of his vehicle. Ms. James described the gun that the other male had in his hands as a rifle. Ms. James stated that’s when she went into the kitchen to call for police. During the phone call that was placed by Ms. James, she stated “there’s a man with a gun; he’s pulled it out, he’s going to shoot my neighbor”. Ms. James, who residence is located across the street, stated that she was watching the incident from the window. Ms. James advised the 911 operator that the other male was in a black or dark colored SUV. Ms. James advised to the 911 operator that it looked like the male was getting back in his car and may be leaving. Soon after, gunshots can be heard in the background of the phone call. Ms. Hunt advised that between the hours of 12:40 am and 12:45 am, she was awaken by two (2) male voices arguing and the sound of a vehicle “honking” the horn. Ms. Hunt stated that she recognized one of the male voices to be her neighbor that lives across the street from her. Ms. Hunt stated that she could not remember his name at the time, but he usually wears a tie-dyed shirt. Ms. Hunt stated that’s when she looking out of her upstairs window and observed a Chevy truck that was parked between the porch and the street on the grassy area facing west bound. Ms. Hunt stated that the headlights to the vehicle were on and the two (2) males continued to argue. Ms. Hunt stated that she went to get a pair of eye glasses and when she came back the Chevy truck had moved. Ms. Hunt stated that the Chevy truck was parked as if it was going to exit the driveway before entering the street. Ms. Hunt stated that she observed a male and her neighbor, Derrell Underwood, on the side of his residence in a physical altercation. Ms. Hunt stated that she observed the other male go back to his truck and could not see what he was doing from where she was looking out of her window.
