Ethical Dilemmas Essay I have chosen to analyze case two and this paper will outline my understanding, exploration, and final decision-making process as it applies to the ethical dilemmas presented. Understanding the Dilemmas This case has a variety of ethical dilemmas occurring across several contexts (personal, societal, and organizational). Reflecting on the theories and conceptual models presented in this course, I found the Five Faces of Oppression (Young, 2014) and the Ecological Systems Theory (Bronfenbrenner, 1979) helpful in conceptualizing these various circumstances and contexts.…

Character traits are extremely important in novels; they affect the way the reader feels about each of the characters. Authors will often give the protagonists positive and relatable character traits so that the reader will feel emotionally invested in the characters. The antagonist will usually have negative character traits to build up dislike so that the reader will root for the protagonist. Character traits in a book often drive the plot and lead to the climax. Without defining and compelling character traits a book can become stagnant.…

This movie shows us the hope that Andy Dufresne had with him the whole time he was in prison. It is the hope that we find Søren Kierkegaard and Albert Camus talk about – existentialist hope. After having read on the philosophies of the two existentialists, I started to realize how I could see that hope being portrayed in this movie. Existentialism is focused on human existence and how to become fully human. For Kierkegaard, to exist means to stand out which was exactly what Andy did a few months after he entered Shawshank.…

This is an ethical issue of the biggest offense because a man had to lose his life for knowing the truth in a corrupted prison. Andy at the end of the movie makes very unethical decisions to get out of his dilemmas. He first breaks out of prison and then steals back the money he stole for the Warden. This is the only time any of the ethical dilemmas get resolved when Andy writes a letter and mails it to a news station telling them of the Warden’s crimes with money laundering, the “free” community service, and the free accounting and taxes as well as the corrupt acts that happened at the prison.…
