The still air represents the breaths of meditation, the breaths are still and steady, the world around him is silent and still, and his thoughts are also still. “Piute Creek” In Piute Creek, Snyder describes the imagery of nature as too much, he wrote: One granite ridge A tree, would be enough Or even a rock, a small creek,…

Dead Again uses different lighting techniques to create dramatic contrast and a sense of mood in each scene. This is highlighted through the film noir scenes when dramatic high contrast was achieved by using two extremes of lighting, a lack of light and a heavy amount of light. This was especially shown in the opening interrogation scene. During the scene the light in the room was the only light source present and everything else was in complete darkness. In the scene the contrast was so strong that in order to be visible the actor playing Roman Strauss had to lean forward into the light source.…

Out of many early photographic processes, I select the Anna Atkins Photographs of British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions, 1843 Cyanotype. I select this process because the color of this picture is very different to the others in the lecture making this photography stand out and get my attention. While I was doing my researches, I found out that the process to make this picture is not complicated, does not require a lot of materials, and needs a negative image which reminds me of the class activity that we did the first day of class. To create a cyanotype photography according to the Cyanotypes of British Algae by Anna Atkins (1843) article “the cyanotype is a process that produced images through a so-called sun-printing. The object is placed…

In the excerpt, “Let There be Dark” the author, Paul Bogard, clearly states his viewpoint that [darkness is an irreplaceable value]. Bogard uses real world examples, rhetorical questioning as well as figurative diction to stress to his audience his strong belief that natural darkness should be preserved. Towards the middle of the excerpt, Bogard includes a rhetorical question that persuades his readers to also value darkness as much as he does. “In a world awash with electric light...how would Van Gogh have given the world his ‘Starry Night’?” This question allows readers the opportunity to think back on the famous artwork, Starry Night and imagine the lack of beauty it would hold without the enhancement of darkness.…

The uncomfortable truths of humanity, what are they? Before I can state that, I'll need to explain what the film, “Into The Wild,” is about. To put it shortly, Chris McCandless is a young man who leaves everyone he knows to live alone in Alaska; this is all in his attempt to escape from society and to achieve ultimate freedom. Also, the director is Sean Penn. Throughout this essay, I'll be contrasting the wilderness against society to show how humans are distancing themselves from their ancestors; we are losing who we truly are.…

Within the first five minuets, the audience can see how important the lighting is going to be throughout the movie. In the movie, the director focuses on lighting to portray the mood to the audience. The lighting would appear dim when times were bad, and brighter when good things were happening. For example, when Andy first arrives to the prison it is a very dim day, no sun was visible. As he gets off the bus he appears timid, Red says, “a stiff breeze could blow him over.”…

Chey schaefer Research paper 12/1/2017 Tseng Alexander Rodchenko and his use of alienation Alexander Rodchenko's marvelous photography -- for which he is now best remembered -- tilted the world in a new direction. He would typically skew the angle of his shots, so that our eyes are not dominated by the usual dead-on rectangle. Trying to break the habits of seeing and slide space itself into new dimensions, his rigorous compositional sense visually "holds" the elements of the photograph in place. Alexander Rodchenko used perspective as a tool of alienation to signify his style.…
