Casa De Amparo Observation Report

To begin, Casa de Amparo is an amazing care system that truly cares about the wellbeing of the children and preventing teen parents from falling into a vicious violent cycle. As I entered Casa de Amparo, I was welcomed by a smile from an assistant and transferred to a conference room where I met with other students and Jane McGuire. For weeks, I had been wanting to tour the site and volunteer as three youth from the site visited my class to learn about college life. The youth were all high school students with impoverish upbringings who had been transferred to Casa de Amparo from the foster care system. Additionally, the students had been invited by Dr. Juan Santos to tour the campus and question students on the resources available on campus, the environment, and what it was like to try to obtain a higher education. Later on, I was able to sit next to a high school senior named Dominique and answer his questions one on one. Through this interaction, I was able to observe the impact that Casa de Amparo has on the children and how the resources benefit each one …show more content…
For example, we were introduced to the institution’s art and crafts center, library, counseling site, garden, dorms, teen parents training area, activity room, and a large donation center. As expressed by Jane, the site although receiving minor support from the community in the beginning, has seen improvement in the amount of support by the quantity of donation they receive on a weekly basis by families and businesses around the area. As well, Casa de Amparo is the only site established in North County that provides this type of sustainability to underprivileged, neglected and abused children. Therefore, when our community project description mentioned that we were not allowed to interact with the youth, it became a privilege that I had the opportunity to do
