Carthage's government was like the Roman republic in many ways, but had some significant differences. A similar aspect to Rome of Carthage's government is it had two suffetes, lead magistrates, who had similar functions as Roman consuls. As well as suffetes, Carthage have a group of elders called the “hundred” which had a striking resemblance to the senate, and an assembly called “the people” like the comitia. However, the similarities stopped there. Carthage had one advantage that Rome did not, which was a chief of military who would stay in his office for a longer period of time. This gave Carthage a stability Rome didn't have with its ever-changing members of your government. On the other hand, Carthage had smaller man power among its citizens
