The strategies and approaches that are presented in this chapter by Carter and Curtis are perfectly summarized when they write, “Building and sustaining your vision takes more than your imagination or a head full of dreams. You need a structure and systems to help you organize the tasks that lead you to your vision, one that keeps you acting intentionally in your planning and responses” (Curtis and Carter, 2010, 46). I have learned that there are so many different roles and responsibilities of a program administrator, and that finding balance and maintaining your vision for the program are an absolute must if you want your children, parents, staff members and yourself to be happy at your center. I think that the triangle framework presented by Carter and Curtis is a great tool to use in order achieves these things. I believe that learning to balance your tasks is a huge part of being an effective director and can sometimes be very difficult. I also believe it is necessary to learn before you can create a structure and framework for your program. Curtis and Carter provide many metaphors about finding balance. In describing balance as it pertains to jugglers, they write, “The trick to keeping all those balls in the air is to find one spot to focus …show more content…
The three sides of the triangle; managing and overseeing, coaching and mentoring, and building and supporting community are all very important aspects of being a director. I think that roles that go along with all three sides that Curtis and Carter provide in this chapter are very clear cut, and that most directors know that they are expected to perform these tasks.
