Both Carrie and Heathers represent the struggle of a teenager to fit into the popular group while in high school. Although the two leading popular characters from both wish to put an end to the bullying and get out of their clique, they way they accomplish their goals is very different. Carrie tells the story of how a popular girl attempts to end bullying by using her boyfriend to help a socially awkward outcast become normal for a day. Carrie, the outcast, has been a victim of her mother’s overly religious homeschooling and self-inflicting punishment for many years. Not learning much about life, her transition into high school was very challenging and she did not know fit in. Sue, one of the popular girls, is tired of the way her clique has …show more content…
Veronica, one of the popular girls in the group known as the Heathers, is tired of how the group leader bullies and controls them. In a rebellious act, Veronica begins dating JD, a sociopath, and tells him how she wishes the Heathers were dead so she could be free to do as she wishes. In a plot to teach the Heathers a lesson, JD convinces the Heather leader to drink poison. When she dies, they cover it up as a suicide. One by one, the popular students start dying in what appears to be suicides. Fearing JD has gone too far, Veronica attempts to stop him. JD ultimately dies. Veronica’s method to end the bullying was by working with her boyfriend to get rid of the popular Heathers. The sacrifice she paid, was the death of her boyfriend. In conclusion, both Carrie and Heathers represent popularity social struggles and how different women used their powers to accomplish their goals. Although the two leading popular characters from both attempted to put an end to the bullying and get out of their clique, Sue from Carrie used her abilities to do good, while Veronica from Heathers used her abilities to do more harm.
