Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Case Study

Improved Essays
In discussion question 1 I discussed carpal tunnel. Treat carpal tunnel syndrome as early as possible after symptoms start. Take more frequent breaks to rest your hands. Avoid activities that worsen symptoms and applying cold packs to reduce swelling also may help. Other treatment options include wrist splinting, medications and surgery. As you go through your day, keep an eye on how tense your hands are and how much pressure you put on them. If you can back off even a little, your hands and wrists will thank you. Take more breaks. You should take more breaks. Step away from your work to bend or stretch your hands. A 10- to 15-minute break every hour is ideal. This is especially important if you use tools that vibrate or make you apply a lot

The main site from where the people get the carpel tunnel syndrome is the office. The constant typing, using keyboards and mouse without break and continuously will give pressure to the wrists and lead to the compression of the median nerve. So the first advise would be to take rests every 20 minutes from whatever you are performing with your hands and do little exercises like stretching. It does not matter even if you do not do any exercise, you just have to give your wrist a relief from the continuous motion or a change of course and intensity in the…

Research In 1903, Robert Osgood, a US orthopedic surgeon, and Carl Schlatter, a Swiss surgeon, concurrently described the disease that now bears their names. They found a pattern in which teenagers who are still growing often experience knee pain and inflammation in the area just below the knee and they called it Osgood-Schlatter disease. Teens experience symptoms of this while doing athletic activities or doing some regular exercise like climbing stairs. They feel pain in their knee, sometimes in both but with one more painful.…

After reading the short excerpt about Maria, I quickly realized that she is experiencing nerve issues. The median nerve supplies movement and feeling to the palm, thumb, index finger, and middle finger. (JH and Zhao M) Maria is undergoing numbness, and tingling in her thumb, index, and middle fingers, with an aching pain in the palmar sides of her wrists. Maria’s most likely diagnosis is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, or CTS. While there is no direct correlation between typing on a computer for an extensive period of time and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, the median nerve is put under pressure which leads to the tingling and numbness that she is feeling, especially if she is avid in writing blogs online.…

Patients education intervention studies emphasized the value of wearing an elbow extension splint at night if needed or limiting elbow flexion by wrapping a pillow around the anterior elbow, adjusting posture at work to reduce elbow flexion, using a hands-free headset with cell phone use, or padding the posterior surface of the elbow (Trehan et al., 2012). The studies concluded that patient education had the most impact on those who had mild degeneration or no degeneration at all. It was found that patients with mild degeneration responded better to this treatment with a lower rate of recurrence than those with more severe degeneration (Nakamichi et al., 2009). Education and early interventions could decrease the risks of getting cubital tunnel syndrome and help decrease the progression of this condition. If you suffer, the early symptoms of cubital tunnel syndrome seek medical intervention and treatment right away to avoid the severity of this…

The major issue of this topic is that there is not a lot of researches to find a solution to help these victims find a comfortable norm. Socially, people who have AHS will have a hard time adjusting to their environment. The people around them should be understanding, and they will need to be knowledgeable about AHS. Even though individuals who have AHS are violent, if the people around them are understanding and competent then they will know that a person who has AHS is not intensely being violent.…

Patients with SCI may experience several types of chronic pain, including peripheral and central neuropathic pain. The pain syndromes or disturbing sensations are separated into two broad categories: spontaneous pain (independent of peripheral stimuli, persistent, comes and goes, and can be anything from numbness to burning/cutting like) and peripherally evoked pain (in response to non-noxious or noxious stimuli) (40, 41). Neuropathic pain in SCI can arise from multiple system changes in sensory pathways from dorsal root ganglion (DRG) to cortex. Previous studies have shown in mammals, that injury affecting the axons or soma of sensory neurons, with their soma in the DRG, causes hyperexcitability that can lead to spinal sensitization and neuropathic pain (42, 43, 44, 45). Increasing evidence has also suggested a critical role of the thalamus in the development and maintenance of neuropathic pain.…
