Carnegie Mellon: Statement Of Purpose

Improved Essays
Carnegie Mellon provides the perfect balance of academics, athletics, and culture that I am looking for in a university. From a young age, I was always fascinated with how machines worked. Instead of playing with toys, I would attempt to take them apart. In the fourth grade, we were given circuits to experiment with during our science lesson, which easily became my most enjoyable unit. Fast forward to eighth grade, I was introduced to a documentary in my science class which discussed innovative projects that will enhance the medical field’s technology. These experiences solidified my interest in engineering which led to a focus in computer engineering and biotechnology fields.

I am interested in attending The Catholic University of America because it has a fantastic academic, proximity to internships and jobs, and a Catholic identity and community. Becoming a student of Catholic means that I am going to receive a first-class education from professors that genuinely care about their students. Moreover, having a low student-faculty ratio also fascinates me because it indicates that faculty members can spend more time working individually with students. This will allow professors to distinguish my capabilities and will also be a great feeling and even an advantage to me as they are the ones that can get me in connection with people when I branch off into my career. Thus, I have high hopes of having a phenomenal educational…

My determination to pursue a career in Computer Science sprang from the embarrassment I faced when I was in third grade. I became the subject of mockery after I pushed the power button when asked to shut down the lab-computer. I felt as if every other student but me knew how to systematically shut down the computer. Mortified, I aimed to outclass everyone in my class and ultimately become eminent in a field relating to computers. By reading every book I could find about computers, I propelled my knowledge much beyond the scope of our basic computer classes.…
