The name says it all about the university. Named after Andrew Carnegie and Mellon, I believe that Carnegie Mellon has all the tools to help me succeed. My love of science and engineering began when I was a child. Growing up, science and math were always my forte. In school, I was always fascinated by science experiments, and seeing chemical reactions. As a child, science almost seemed like magic. What really makes me love mathematics is how some problems are like puzzles. Each individual problem is like solving a puzzle every time to get a solution. Being surrounded by science, and being strong in science as a kid really pushed me to pursue a career in a science/math related field. I truly believe that Carnegie Mellon has the best tools to achieve my dreams as an engineer. If I am able to attend Carnegie Mellon, it will be the perfect place for me. Centered in Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon is full of culture and diversity. The quality of education is unmatched. With small class sizes and small student to teacher ratio, each student can get the personal attention they need, and reach their full potential. The school has all of the characteristics I am looking for in a college education. One aspect of Carnegie Mellon …show more content…
Many people come from different backgrounds. Everyone has something special that they can bring to the table. Being from Lewiston Maine, I am able to experience a multicultural lifestyle. Roughly 15 years ago, there was a large Somali immigration to Lewiston. To be frank, Maine is not the most culturally diverse state. There were, and still are negative reactions from the community that disagree with the immigration. I believe that as a country, we should be more welcoming of all different types of life and culture. Living in Lewiston, really made me appreciate the different cultures of people, and the reason being why Carnegie Mellon’s stance on culture and society really caught my

My interest in physics was initially ignited during my sophomore year. I signed up for AP Physics 1, taught by a teacher in his first year, right out of college. His main goal was to encourage students to apply physics to the world around them and identify the relevancy of the course material. I was immediately hooked and I bought book after book about Einstein's Theory of Relativity, the Big Bang, and quantum mechanics. I was eager to learn as much as I could; in doing so, I realized that working in a laboratory setting, conducting experiments and applying equations, is something that I am truly passionate about.…

Before addressing why Pitt is a good choice for me, I would like to review why I am a good choice for Pitt. The University of Pittsburgh values their “talented, diverse and high achieving students”, their “safe and healthy campuses”, their unique balance of “fun and camaraderie with internships and other learning opportunities outside the classroom”, and their focus on “developing students into global citizens” (University of Pittsburgh webpage, ‘Prospective Students’). I am a well-rounded student who places priority upon academics, as well as a broad array of performing arts extracurricular activities, over 300 hours of community service, several job experiences and religious organizations. Therefore, if admitted to The University of Pittsburgh, I would fit right in with the ardent and accomplished student body, just as I would benefit as a person and as…

I chose to attend the University of Central Oklahoma because I loved the area, and I felt that this college has a great atmosphere. It feels as if any freshman can come onto this campus, and adapt themselves within the first few minutes of being here. I find it very convenient that there is a vast majority of activities and clubs to get involved in, so no one feels like an outsider. The whole environment just rubs off on you in a good way. It's everything I wanted when I pictured living on a college campus.…

Fall of 2013 I started the Early College Alliance, otherwise known as ECA. For those who do not know, when you first start ECA you take High School level classes, with other High Schoolers during your first semester. After teachers review your progress you’ll either be placed in College classes, because you’re what they call, “College Ready,” or you’ll take another semester of High School classes. During my second year of ECA, I was placed in EMU College classes. During this time I was exposed to an environment in which I was interacting with adults in a classroom setting, versus being in school with students in my age group.…

According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, diversity is the condition of having or being of different elements. Many times the word diversity is used in terms of people and cultures. This is the case because no two people are alike, and this holds true for cultures as well. Diversity of an individual encompasses three different areas: invariability, variability, and influence. While invariable characteristics of a person tend to remain the same over one’s lifetime, variable characteristics and environmental influences vary throughout a lifetime.…
