My best friend had just recently come back from a short weekend trip to Pittsburgh. She chattered excitedly about the architecture, the museums, the “swanky looking” students that walked around the city with her hands waving around expressively. What stood out to me though was when she mentioned her visit to the Carnegie Mellon campus and how she met this one girl who was majoring in biology and minoring in fine arts. From a young age I would often read mysteries, always striving to figure out the “whodunit” as well as about famous researchers and their revolutionary discoveries (now in my free time I enjoy watching true crime). Both of my parents are involved the life sciences field and have encouraged my interests over the years. One of my most enriching experiences was shadowing at my father’s lab over the summer where I was able to learn about the lab techniques and real life research experience which I wasn’t able to get in a school setting. I want to further pursue my passion for the sciences and I believe Carnegie Mellon is the perfect place to pursue my interests as it offers research projects as well as opportunities to their students which are not available at other schools. These opportunities provided by CMU will help me achieve hands on experience in my field of study and will provide me with the training and knowledge that will assist me in my future in medicine.
