Carnegie Mellon Essay

Back in the seventh grade, my class completed a college research project. Knowing that I have no idea what I want to major in I take one of those “what-major-is-right-for-you-test” and end up with computer science. So now I have a major, but what college would I choose? Enter google. Carnegie Mellon consistently appeared in the top 5 schools and I was immediately drawn to it. Sure, MIT, Stanford, and Harvard were there but I was looking for a school I didn’t know a whole lot about - and Carnegie Mellon fit that bill.
Carnegie Mellon was my ideal as soon as I completed the research project. When I learned about the prestige of the university, I instantly became interested. Visiting campus, I was drawn to the design of the buildings as well as the the personal and welcoming feeling I received from the faculty and students. Research done at the university is revolutionary and the students love what they do. My choice for education is Carnegie Mellon because of the numerous research opportunities offered and the top tier education that students receive here.

Science is about discovering new laws and facts, but engineering is about making new things. Computer Science professionals are primarily focussed on developing improvised solutions for users, hence these professionals can be better referred to as Toolsmiths rather than Computer scientists. A Toolsmith is successful only when his tool users are benefitted and satisfied with the tool. This very expectation holds correct in our case too. We succeed only when the solutions developed by us are useful, easy and makes the users faster and better.…
