In this paper I will try argue whose life in my opinion was better. Whose life was more moral or more beneficial based on the three stories? Was it life of Carly, Tonya or Jane?
Carly was a student who worked hard during her school days and upon graduation took a job in corporate America. She continued to work hard while there and also saved money to start her own entrepreneurial career. She finally saved enough money to start her own company and follow her dream. After a few years she grew her business to the point that she was able to sell if for $10 million. Now she is enjoying her live, starting family, building her dream home and managing her portfolio. She discovered flow in the founds-routing procedure and was able to divert $10 million to offshore account and then through several different exotic accounts to the bank account only known to her. After a year when scandal cools down she resigns and lives private life in the luxury somewhere in Europe. Tonya on the other hand is an example of predatory or selfish, in the most negative meaning of that word, ethic.
Jane graduated from college with liberal arts degree from good University. Unfortunately that summer after graduation her parents died suddenly and left $10 million in their will for Jane. She immediately donated $9.9 and the rest she invested in certificate of deposit which give her 8% return. She lives frugal life without much discomfort. Jane is example of altruistic ethic. Puts all the party involved on the same level of need and they all benefit. In altruistic ethic there is a level of sacrifice for greater good involved, which might be use for all the wrong reasons. Altruism doesn’t necessarily mean benevolence and helping those who deserve or need help. Perhaps person who is acting altruistic is going to benefit from this help in the future. Predatory is the worst from them all. It only benefit one party, doesn’t create value and selfish in nature. Stellar example here would be Bernie Madoff. Although destructive and wrong, I think it is important check for the balance in the equilibrium as exploits weak points. It helps to create better
