The setting is house that from the audience's perspective has three separate rooms. The room on the far stage left is a kitchen. The room in the middle is blank but has pictures that you would expect to be in family room. The room on the far right has is an entrance hallway. Each room is accessed by walking around the front walls as if there is a hallway. Joe stands in the room on the far left. Joe is physically very strong but he has not left the house in days. He trying to wash dishes but he keeps stopping to stare off into space. Carl enters stage left. He age 51 years, look to be just past his prime. He is dressed sharply. Waits for a moment.
