Description of Case Carlos Sanchez is a fifteen year oldfifteen-year-old boy whom the counselor at his high school referred to Oak Services for mental health services after he is apparently the victim of bullying. He was born on the south Chicago area to Javier and Maria Sanchez as the third of their five children. The Sanchez’s are immigrants from Puerto Rico that came to America in their midtwenties before starting their family. Carlos’ father is a salesman for a heating and air-conditioning company and Mrs. Sanchez is a homemaker. The couple also owns a duplex in a neighboring community to bring in additional income. It can be assumed that Carlos’ parents made sacrifices to come to America to give their children every opportunity to flourish. That translates to a lot of pressure on their children. It is inferred that Carlos will have to answer for indiscretions committed at school at home and his mother makes it clear that his responsibility to his family is education. This strict environment can be stressful even before the bullying is considered. More sessions would need to be held to assess how gendered thinking plays into how Carlos sees himself, especially because he is the oldest
