Carlos Hathcock always dreamed about becoming a Marine. So on the date May 20th, 1959 of his 17th birthday, he enlisted in the Marine Corps. Before, he deployed to Vietnam, Carlos Hathcock had won several shooting championships. At that time in Vietnam War, Carlos Hathcock had 93 verified kills of the North Vietnamese people. The Vietnamese people set out a $30,000 bounty to go after Carlos Hathcock. Also, the Vietnamese Army’s sniper’s called Carlos Hathcock “White Feather Sniper”. Carlos and John Roland Burke, his sentry, were hunting the enemy marksman. The Vietnamese sharpshooter, known as “Cobra”, had already killed numerous U.S. Marines and was considered to specially to kill the U.S. Sniper Carlos Hathcock. Carlos Hathcock seen a flash of light, (light mirroring off the enemy marksman's scope). In the bushes, Carlos Hathcock fired shooting through the scope and killing the markman. Both of the sniper’s were zeroing it in on each other at the same time whereas Carlos Hathcock fired first, however it only gave him a couple seconds to move. Both of the snipers could have killed one another. Carlos Hathcock only removed the feather from his hat once while he was deployed in Vietnam. After he killed the North Vietnamese officer, he had returned home to the United States. Carlos missed the Marines Corps, however he did eventually returned to Vietnam. In 1969, he took command of of a platoon of snipers. All of the sudden, Carlos Hathcock’s career of being a sniper ended on September 16th, 1969.
