Carlos Gimenez is the mayor of Miami-Dade County. Carlos Gimenez was born in Havana, Cuba on January 17, 1954. In 1960, his family decided to immigrate to the United States of America in the start is the Cuban Revolution. Gimenez and his family settled in which is now Little Havana in Miami. Gimenez joined the City of Miami Fire Department as a firefighter in the 1970’s and was appointed Fire Chief by the City Manager Cesar Odio in 1991. He served through the year 2000. Gimenez was also a former member of the International City Managers Association, the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the National Fire Protection Association, the Florida Fire Chiefs, and the Fire Officers Association of Miami-Dade.
