Mexican novel and essayist Carlos Fuentes once stated “Writing is a struggle against si-lence” (Fuentes). While I have made much progress, writing is a struggle for me since I procras-tinate and welcome every distraction with open arms. Also since I feel more called to create vis-ual art, I will need to focus my energy on my art and design classes. As for putting words on pa-per, I would much rather proofread someone else’s writing than write something for myself.
While I love to dwell on many subjects and argue with those around me about a variety of topics, I have not done much formal writing since graduating in 1994 and have dreaded formal writing, especially the really long papers. It took me an extra two years to graduate from college because I was so agonized over my senior project and besides I should have been enrolled in art classes instead of stumbling through a rather unfocussed journey through an interdisciplinary studies program with little focus on art and design. I had trouble picking a topic, but eventually I

I do not recall having writing process explained to me previously in the simple, straight-forward manner that I have received in my two English Composition courses this summer. That may just be it has been a long time since it was explained to me. I still think it can be quite a challenge to come up with a thesis statement that is both interesting and fitting for dealing a group of disparate pieces of literature. Also, NWACC’s librarian introduced us students to the large variety of private re-search databases accessible through our school’s library webpage and that such databases are often available through public libraries. In 1994, when I graduated with a bachelor’s degree, I did not know what the Internet was, let alone have access to such databases twenty-one years ago, so it should be easier. Also, writing with lots of breaks in between is pretty good

During the writing of my “Fahrenheit 451” and Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave” Analysis, I began by first, thinking out my ideas, to put together an essay that would be understandable to myself, the people reviewing my essay, and lastly, my teacher. You are needing a thesis to get your point situated right in front of the readers’ eyes so he or she doesn’t get bewildered while reading. In almost any standardized essay however, your maximum length for a thesis is at most, needing to be one sentence. Even though, you're evidently going to need to write more to get the introduction that is impeccable, but simple.…

I currently live in a small beach town right outside of Jupiter, Florida known as Hobe Sound. It’s a “drive by town” as I would describe it. There really isn’t anything there would attract or gravitate people to stay there; its better to just look at it out a car window well passing it. It is currently about six hours outside of Tallahassee, Florida. This seems really long, but originally I signed to go to University of Mississippi and later realized that being more than ten hours away from home was to much for me.…

In this course, I learned about writing steps like making a draft before you begin and not to write what you feel in your essay. I also learned about great note taking techniques. Today I learned about punctuation, pronouns, sentence errors and run-on sentences, Example: I love to write papers I would write one every day if I had the time. There are two complete sentences in the above. Example: Sentence 1: I love to write papers.…

Adequate writing was always a struggle for me because I struggled with coming up with topics to write about. Even when teachers gave us prompts to write about I struggled writing about them mostly because I thought writing was boring. Another reason I was discouraged by writing was I would spend hours at a time trying to come up with ideas for a prompt and would barely come up with any ideas to write about. Being a civil engineering major I see why writing is so important in my career field. My experience with writing has had its good moments and its bad moments.…

The second essay I was asked to write was a research proposal essay. The research proposal essay was a formal memorandum asking permission from our instructor to use a chosen thesis. I like everyone else in the class titled it “Memorandum.” My chosen topic was about the nursing shortage and how it is a serious crisis that needs to be focused on. I chose to write about this topic because I will someday be going into this field and I don't want to suffer from the effects of a nursing shortage, so by telling even just a few people more attention will be brought to the subject.…

Throughout the semester of English Composition I, I learned any new things. Over the past few months I have learned many new tips on how to create a good paper. Although I gained much knowledge over the past few months I did struggle with a few things such as formulating a written thesis statement expressing my main point in the composition, producing rough drafts preliminary to the final draft, applying transition strategies to organize the entire composition cohesively and coherently, and overall practicing various prewriting strategies, such as thinking, brainstorming, listing, and freewriting.…

When I walked into English at the beginning of the year, I was terrible at writing thesis statements. They were either too vague or too “inside the story” and they overall weren’t well written. After a whole semester of practice, however, they have greatly improved. The first proper thesis statement I ever wrote in english class was for my Life of Pi essay. The first time I wrote it, it was awful.…

My History As A Writer Throughout my lifetime I have come to love and absolutely hate writing. The reasoning of the assignment or topic has a lot to do with my affinity and disgust. As an art form I recently come to love writing down my thoughts, ideas, opinions and stories.…

I have always considered my relationship with writing to be very insignificant. Although I enjoy spending time verbally expressing my thoughts and feelings to others, it becomes difficult when these thoughts and feelings are expressed through writing. Throughout my adolescent years, I would often receive feedback for my writing given by the teacher in the form of a grade. Being unable to effectively organize my thoughts and ideas into words and sentences, I would feel reluctant to continue writing confidently whenever I received an undesirable grade.…

This semester, I did my research on the movement, Black Lives Matter. Researching one topic for a semester may be perceived as an rigorous idea, but it helps in ameliorating your writing skills and challenging your writing competence. Throughout each major paper I have written this semester, there is an apparent growth within my writing abilities. While becoming a more advanced writer and practicing new ways of composing essays, I gained more knowledge that benefited me in writing my major papers and writing exercises. During this term, I have found that my writing capabilities have improved tremendously, but I would still like to make major adjustments to the skills I have molded and find new ways to incorporate them into my future papers as I move into the next phase of English Composition.…

A Candid Narrative Up until recently, I hated writing papers. This seems like an ironic place to confess that, but it is true. I would dread the process of staring at a blank screen until I managed to get words to finally begin flowing. More than anything, I hated the revision process.
