I agree with this because in his poem “Chicago” the poems tells the story about the workers and the less wealthy of Chicago, not the rich and powerful of the city. It shows the grit that the city has and the determination that they have. Sean Robisch stated that Sandburg brings the story out and makes it more vivid to the reader by using imagery and giving the city a personality of a young strong man that looks rough on the outside, but once you see the inside he is the greatest man you will ever see. I agree with this statement because after reading the poem multiple times it becomes more obvious that the imagery used and the personality he gives to the city makes the poem feel more alive and gives vivid images of what it might look like. Sandburg gives the city a human like personality so that it creates a more in depth point of view on the city. Robisch also talked about while the city can be great, it can also be a wicked, brutal city that can knock you down at any second. Sandburg addresses this in the first part of the poem by saying “And they tell me you are crooked and I answer: Yes, it is true I have seen the gunman kill and go free to kill again.” The heart of the city is the people that live in it, and work in it every single day to grow and make their city even
