Energy independency has now become an international subject, spreading with radical pioneers who seek independence from the local power grid. Henk Rogers reiterates, through his campaign to run his house on solar electricity and amicable quest to ensure Hawaii's electrical independency by 2045, that energy independency is accomplished when an individual or even a community can successfully supply their own energy needs without assistance from the power grid. Through his tenacious aspiration to encourage residents to go off grid, Rogers has inspired countless residents to become energy independent. In doing so, he has prioritized it as his ‘number one’ objective, insistent to reduce carbon emission from combustible fuels. The key factor that lead him to partake of the clean energy movement was perturbing fact that Hawaii’s hallmark coral reefs are perishing in the increasingly acidic ocean.…

When riding in a canoe up the Rifle River, the last thing that anyone would expect would be heavy profanity blasting from a quarter-mile away. However, that was exactly the case for the young family of Michael Smith according to the article “I Swear, What’s the U.S. Coming To?” by Mike Downey, which appeared on page 2 of the Los Angeles Times. Timothy Boomer, after capsizing his canoe from a rock, bellowed obscenities which got him arrested and put to trial from breaking a state law passed in 1897 in Michigan.…

On the other hand, Seaver claims that it was not his intention to take away their motto; on the side note, he did not know that slogan was created by Coca-Cola. The significance of this closing statement is that it shows how they would not change the motto in any way. Furthermore, Seaver concludes his point, "We were merely quoting in our ads Peter S. Prescott's review of Diary of a Harlem Schoolteacher is the real thing, a short, spare, honest book in which will, I suspect, be read a generation hence as a classic..." (34-37). In making this comment, he did not agree to change the Coca-Cola's motto and embarrassed the Executive Vice President of the Coca-Cola company. Therefore, Seaver just won on who owns the slogan.…

This case became quite popular and was in all news. Mrs. Leibek should have never left her coffee cup open.…

After a conversation where Hale explains what he encountered when he entered the home the previous morning, the County Attorney wants to get started with the investigation of the crime scene. The County Attorney says after looking around “I guess we’ll go upstairs first – and then out to the barn and around there.” This is the first verbal inference about the County Attorney’s chauvinistic feelings. He is thinking along more of a man’s self importance not stopping to think about this is where a woman would or could spend a lot of time thinking about things. The sheriff goes on to back up this ideal when asked if he was “convinced that there was nothing of importance here-…

If women are inferior to men, then there should be no reason a woman should not have equal rights, for she will never obtain superiority; her mental aptitude and her potential for success are restricted by her womanhood. An overwhelming majority of men and women believed in the inferiority of women, but Franny Fern and Harriet Jacobs were not going to conform to the traditional gender roles outlined by the patriarchal powers in their lives. Coming from extremely different backgrounds, each woman experienced subjugation at the hands of men in unique ways, yet both women were able to utilize whatever power they had in order to maintain agency in their relative situations. In addition to establishing themselves as strong women in their daily lives,…

During the beginning of the speech, LBJ affirms that, “Our success in that pursuit is the test in our success as a nation.” “That pursuit” is the pursuit of happiness which he explains is the only way we will be a successful country. Moreover, the pursuit of happiness is one of the three rights Liberalism wants guaranteed to society; the other two are life and liberty. The three rights are the basis of both forms of Liberalism, but it can be argued that LBJ was trying to show Liberalism I in this sentence. Moreover, more evidence that he is leaning towards Liberalism I is, “The solution to these problems does not rest on a massive program in Washington.”…

Saturday started out cool but sunny. The air was filled with the customary morning-in-a-camping-area smell of bacon, the culmination of at least fifty pounds of sizzling pork being fried at the same time in a hundred or more fry pans. In 1964, bacon was mandatory camping vittles, with the exception of corned beef hash—canned—with msg—and sodium. Only vegetarians and spoil-sports substituting ham changed the rule. Stacey prepared breakfast that year, and he ate as voraciously as anyone else in the family.…

When Susan Glaspell wrote Trifles in 1916, Dr. Lenore Walker had not yet coined the term “battered woman syndrome” in her book, The Battered Woman; the United States’ court records contained no precedent for the use of battered woman syndrome as a defense for murder (Rivers-Schutte 7). It is, however, a fair assumption to suggest that Mrs. Hale, had she been privy to the research and studies on battered woman syndrome, would believe that Mrs. Wright suffered from battered woman syndrome, and her potential role in the murder of her husband is defensible—justified even. While Glaspell’s short play did not give all the necessary information to judge Mrs. Wright’s guilt or innocence fairly, she did offer more than enough information to decide if…
