Carl-Junction School Experience

Great Essays
I want to write about the experiences that I encountered after attending Carl Junction schools, and the impact and difference it made on my life. People think all schools are the same, that it is school, there’s kids and there’s teachers, you go and sit for 8 hours and you get marked as ‘present’ regardless if you’re learning or not, and if you’re present and you don’t fail, then you go on to the next grade. But I realized something different, when things got switched up for me. I attended Carl Junction schools from 1st grade to the very end of 6th grade, and then I started Joplin in the 7th grade, not knowing anyone from this school, or really this area. When I started school at Joplin I was so nervous, I was nervous about the normal stuff, that no one would like me, I would sit by myself, or people would be mean to me. But to …show more content…
It really all started in my 2nd hour math class, I was in Algebra and I had no idea what the teacher was talking about, or what she was doing, So I decided to ask, “Ms. Teacher, I am new to this class, and I’m not sure if I learned this yet.” She looked at me as if I was garbage, as if I was the stupidest person on this plant. She sharply replied with, “That is not my problem, your previous school should have taught you this, you can go to the principal to switch to a easier class, if this is too hard for you,” I was absolutely shocked about how rude and inconsiderate a teacher could be, right after that, the girl behind me said “It’s because she’s from Joplin,” the whole class started laughing, including the teacher who still did not help, now, this girl did know that I had attended Carl Junction, and she knew that I had moved back, but I never really talked to this girl, or gave her much thought until that

There are various reasons as to why I’m deserving of the Etna-Dixmont School Scholarship. The most prevalent reason is my family history and connection with the town of Dixmont. My father and my grandparents moved to from Massachusetts to Dixmont, Maine when he was in second grade. My grandfather bought a house on Route 9 in Dixmont, and some other land in addition to that. The Dixmont Corner Church was built in 1835, and had an active one room school house next to it that was built in 1808.…

I’m sure someone has asked them self what it would be like to go to a whole new school at one point in their life, especially if they did not like their school much. I certainly had, but I most definitely not expecting to. Going from a private school like Jackson Academy to a small public school like Puckett High School was a big change, and there were many contrasts between the two schools. The three most important differences between Jackson Academy were the size, dress code, and education. Jackson Academy was very different from Puckett.…

Their decision caused me to fall behind and ultimately fail. I remember my teacher was in the middle of a lecture, and then an old lady would peak into the door and say “Ashley”? Getting out of my desk, she awaited for me smiling. She sat me down in a navy plastic chair in the hallway, taking a small yellow booklet out of her purse onto the table, sliding the booklet towards me to have me put down words in random sections, afterwards to have me read out loud to her. This would happen once a week.…

My first time going to a predominantly white school, was freshman year in high school. I went from being part of the majority, in middle school, to being one of the only black students in my school. The four years I spent at Community School of Davidson, my high school, proved and diminished some stereotypes, gave me a culture shock and allowed me to grow and become comfortable around people who aren’t always like me. The school I attended is located in a semi-wealthy suburb of Charlotte, NC.…

Throughout my life i have been exposed to two different school systems, which has made me aware that people are the same wherever you go. There is always on person that you connect with and another that you can't stand, there's the girls that hate others, and girls who think every guy likes them. I've been in school since the age of three, i was made to go to an all girls school for four years. There was where it felt like the military; the school had very strict rules, you were not allowed to go to the bathroom during your lesson- you could only go on your break or lunch. We only had 2 minutes to get to our class, if we were late, we would get a 15 minute detention after school.…
