On the 25th of April 2015, a powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck at 11:56 am. This earthquake killed more than 8000 people, and at least 25,000 people were injured. This earthquake triggered an avalanche on Mount Everest which killed 19 people. Many villages were completely wiped off the map by large landslides. Other villages were cut off from cities and medical aid. Many people's livelihoods were destroyed. This meant that alongside the loss many people felt from the deaths of friends and family, many people in Nepal no longer had income, a roof over their head, or food to feed themselves and others.

Love of neighbour requires justice, charity must express itself in ways which support and respect human dignity, promote human development and improvement and protect the rights of all humans equally. To promote and fight for justice is to improve and break down structures and systems which block love of others. Love is spoken about in the Gospels, in John 15:12-13 Jesus says “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” This means that as jesus gave his life for us, he was asking his disciples and followers to love one another, and to promote love in the community. this tells us that as followers of Jesus’ teachings, we should love, forgive and accept one
